What I learned: Intro to essential oils

March 25, 2017 - by

This morning I woke up early at 6:30am (thanks work stress), had a quick bowl of yoghurt, stewed apples and my homemade granola and headed off to an Introduction to Essential Oils workshop.

Thanks to eventbrite, one evening when I was busy googling random stuff, I came across Sabrina’s workshop and signed up.

Sabrina is a health and wellness coach (check her out at @MissionWellbeing) and also a representative for DoTerra essential oils. She holds one-hour introductory workshops in her gorgeous home, to educate people on the uses of oils and how the different blends can help heal.

I’ve always been interested in essential oils but aside from a “Stress relief” i bought in Myer last Xmas, I didn’t know much.

After we introduced ourselves and settled around Sabrina’s dining table with peppermint tea, she started telling us about the oils. I didn’t realise there are so many! Oregano, lavender, tea tree, frankincense and lemon. The list goes on!

Even though each bottle looks small, because the oil is so concentrated, you only need one or two drops each application. So each bottle infact lasts for 150-200 applications! One drop of peppermint oil equals 28 cups of tea.

You can use the oils directly on your skin or mixed in with another oil, eg coconut or olive. If you apply a few drops directly to your feet, the oil infuses into your whole body, rather than just a certain area. There’s also diffusers to spread the smell of the oil in a room. And you can use them for cleaning too!

We used oils from a US company called DeTerra. I’m going to buy the starter kit and will report back on how it effects my stress levels and back pain.

Do you use essential oils? What do you use them for?
